| I
bought the Steeda Tri-Ax shifter to replace the stock
shifter. The Tri-Ax is a short throw shifter with a strong
offset spring mechanism to line up the shifter lever with the
third/fourth position. This eliminates missing third that
is all to common with the stock shifter.
The
shifter housing and lever are very well manufactured. The
housing is made of billet T-6 aluminum. The Tri-Ax comes
with a choice of an aluminum or steel shift handle. While
the aluminum handle is lighter, it also transfers heat, unlike
the steel handle. There have been reports of the aluminum
handle breaking as well.
The installation
instructions are very detailed, as are all instructions that
come with Steeda products. The actual installation was
fairly easy and can be done by anyone with mechanical know-how.
Once the shifter was
installed, it was time for a test drive. The shifter was a
major improvement over the stock shifter. The shifts were
crisp and short. It's almost impossible to miss third gear
now. The
overall feeling is notchy and makes shifting a lot more
fun. Most aftermarket shifters create more noise and while
the Tri-Ax is no different, the noise is minimal. If there are any negatives, I'd have to say it would
be the shift into 5th gear. It's more difficult, but
fortunately, 5th isn't a racing gear.
