Bullitt Pedals

Had to replace my worn rubber pedals and decided to go with some Bullitt pedals.  These are the same pedals that came with the Bullitt Mustang.

Installation wasn't easy, but not too difficult.  If you plan on buying and installing these pedals, here are some tips:

Remove the driver's seat by removing the 3 bolts and 1 nut and unplug the power connector if you have a power controlled seat.  From the engine compartment, disconnect the throttle cable.  This will give you some slack to work with when you remove the accelerator pedal.  The dead pedal pops off by using a trim tool or screw driver.  The Bullitt dead pedal simply snaps on.  That's the easy part.  For the brake and clutch pedal, remove the existing pads by pulling them off.  The Bullitt pedals install in the same fashion, but are very difficult to slip on.  Heating the rubber up with a heat gun or blow dryer will make the pedal easier to install.  You may also need a small screw driver to pry the edges of the rubber over the pedal arms.  Be careful not to rip the rubber when using a screw driver.

The accelerator pedal requires more work, especially if you bought the pedal set without the accelerator arm as I did.  First, remove the two 13mm nuts holding the accelerator arm to the firewall.  Now you can bring the arm down further so you can more easily remove the accelerator cable from the top.  Next you will need to punch out the pin that holds the pedal to the arm.  To do this you will need a hammer and punch tool.  Brace the arm and hammer the pin out.  You may need to get a heavy wrench to grip on the other side and give it a good hard hit with the hammer to completely remove the pin.  It is pretty difficult to get it out, but just keeping working at it.  Installing the new pedal is exact reverse.  Line it up with the arm and insert the pin.  You will need some really good hits with a hammer to get the pin back in.  Seems impossible, but will go back in.  Plan for a good one to two hours from start to finish.

I really like the look and feel of the new pedals.  Below you can see a picture of the installed pedals.  Click on the picture for a larger version.
