New MGW Shifter Handle

MGW refined its shifter handle adding many cool features.  The new handle is shorter and has an adjustable shaft so that you can raise or lower the shift knob to the desired height.  The picture below shows a straight black shaft.  The day after I received my shifter handle, MGW announced they had redesigned the shaft so that the shift knob can be angled towards the driver.  This provides a more ergonomic position.  MGW sent the new shaft free of charge to all of its customers that ordered the new shifter handle.  You can see the new shaft in the third picture.

The picture below shows what is included with the shifter handle.  I was surprised to see how much was included.  Not only did the shifter handle include the Allen wrenches required to install the handle, it also included several washers and bushings to provide a custom fit.  Not shown in the picture are the included two lock nuts that fit over the 2 main bolts.  This prevents the bolts from loosening under heavy shifting or vibration.

Comparison between the stock shifter handle and MGW.

Installation of the shifter handle was a breeze.  The shifter handle fit very well on my Steeda Tri-Ax shifter.  I used the two smaller bushings instead of the larger rectangular one.  Once the handle was installed, I adjusted the shaft to a comfortable angle and locked it down.  There is a set screw in the front to lock the shaft into position.  After reinstalling the shifter boot cover and knob, I took it for a test drive.  The positioning of the handle is great.  It took no time at all to get used to the new shifter handle.  The design of the shifter handle provided nice smooth, precise shifts over my Steeda handle.  The only negative aspect of the new shifter handle is that it extends past the first cup holder in 98-00 Mustangs.  This is pretty irrelevant though, since the first cup holder is pretty much useless even with the stock shifter.

Conclusion:  MGW does it again!  They designed a great product and provided everything you need to install it.  The price of the new shifter is $35 or $25 to previous MGW shifter handle owners.
